MEXICO. Cob 8 Escudos, 1715-Mo J. Mexico City Mint, Assayer Jose E. de Leon (J). Philip V. NGC MS-64.
cd. KM-57.2; cf. Cal-2214. Weight: 26.88 gms. This highly interesting and EXTREMELY RARE, possibly UNIQUE, example of a 1715 gold cob was struck with a 4 Escudos obverse die. The result is a very well struck and clear design with plenty of extra space around the edges of the larger 8 Escudos planchet. Lustrous and mesmerizing, this example "wows" the viewer and will intrigue the specialist. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
