ITALY. Bruttium. Rhegion. AR Tetradrachm (16.82 gms), ca. 445-435 B.C. NGC EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 2/5. Light Smoothing.
HGC-1, 1634; HN Italy-2483; Herzfelder-35c (D23/R30; this coin cited). Obverse: Facing scalp of lion; grape bunch on vine to right; Reverse: Iokastos seated left on chair, resting hand upon seat and holding long staff; all within wreath. Some minor roughness and smoothing are noted nearer the peripheries, but this impressive specimen also features a bold obverse with a deep cabinet tone.
