SICILY. Syracuse. Dionysios I, 406-367 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (17.36 gms), Unsigned dies in the style of Eukleidas, ca. 405-395 B.C. NGC EF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 5/5. Fine Style. Flan Flaw.
HGC-2, 1345; Tudeer-98 (V34/R67); SNG ANS-299 (same dies). Obverse: Charioteer, holding kentron and reins, driving quadriga left; above, crowning Nike flying right; in exergue, dolphin left; Reverse: Head of Arethousa left, with hair in bands, wearing double-loop earring; four dolphins around. An alluring example of the "underwater Arethousa," this engaging specimen presents a great strike with attractive deep cabinet toning.
