LOKRIS. Lokri Opuntii. AR Stater (12.01 gms), ca. 360-350 B.C. NGC Ch F, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5. Graffito, Die Shift, Flan Flaw.
HGC-4, 989; cf. BCD Lokris-42; Humphris & Delbridge-Group 10, 94 (O13/R26). Obverse: Head of Demeter left, wearing grain wreath; Reverse: Ajax advancing right, holding sword and shield; broken spear on ground. This choice circulated example presents a collectible example of the popular type for a more affordable price. Some evident circulation is present, but the wear is evenly spread over the devices. A noted die shift is visible on the bust of Demeter along with a flan flaw, additionally some light graffito is present. Nonetheless, this remains an attractive example.
From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection.
Estimate: $1000 - $1500
