PELOPONNESOS. Elis. Olympia. AR Stater (12.19 gms), "Zeus" Mint; engraved by Da-, ca. 412 B.C (92nd Olympiad). NGC VF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 2/5. Countermark, Light Scratches.
HGC-5, 346; BCD Olympia-77; Seltman-151c (dies BS/γτ; this coin cited). Obverse: Eagle head left; poplar left to left; Reverse: Winged thunderbolt with volutes; F-A across field; all within wreath. This Olympia Stater is attractively struck on the flan and very well centered. Some issues are present on the surface, notably a countermark (rosette) and some light scratches on the slightly porous metal. Even still, the richness of detail of this issue abounds, with circulation being evenly spread as to not efface any details. Ultimately, any collector interested in Ancient Grecian issues needs to house one of these pieces in their collection given their connection to the initial century of the Olympic games.
