From May 24 to May 31, 1870, the 5th Battalion, Royal Light Infantry of Canada was in active service along the Canadian / New York border. The May 27, 1870 Battle of Trout River, about 12 miles north of the town of Malone, New York, was the result of one of the Fenian Raids of 1870. It ended in the capture and arrest of Fenian leader John O'Neill, who served with California, Indiana, and U.S. Colored Troops units during the U.S. Civil War.
The rolls reflect that 7,135 medals were awarded with the FENIAN RAID 1870 clasp on its own.
