Impressive 1826 Northwick Collection Catalogue
Noehden, George Henry. SPECIMENS OF ANCIENT COINS, OF MAGNA GRÆCIA AND SICILY. SELECTED FROM THE CABINET OF THE RIGHT HON. THE LORD NORTHWICK: DRAWN BY DEL FRATE, A DISTINGUISHED PUPIL OF ANTONIO CANOVA, AND ENGRAVED BY HENRY MOSES. London: Septimus Prowett, 1826. Folio [37 by 27.5 cm], later black cloth and boards; red morocco spine label, gilt. Frontispiece; (4), v, (3), 63, (1) pages; 20 superbly engraved plates of coins. Plates remarkably free of foxing, with only minor occasional spotting throughout. Near fine. A well-preserved copy of the scarce catalogue of the Lord Northwick collection, featuring marvelous illustrations. The plates in this example are rather fresh, in contrast to the foxed plates encountered in most copies. Only 250 copies were issued: we last offered one in our 2011 New York Book Auction.
