Includes a listing of designations des pièces, 1775–1811; a listing of pieces retained de ma collection, 1789–1817; and a table des matierès. From the originals once in the Raoul Kraft Library and now housed in the Musée Monétaire. NOTICE SUR LA VIE ET LES OUVRAGES D'AUGUSTIN DUPRÉ, GRAVEUR GÉNÉRAL DES MONNAIES DE LA RÉPUBLIQUE. By Charles Blanc. Institut de France, Académie des Beaux-Arts, 1870. 8vo. 16 leaves. Richard Margolis was unable to locate an original copy of this publication. THREE PUBLICATIONS ON JEAN-PIERRE DROZ. 8vo. 29 leaves. Includes: Jean-Pierre Droz, from Art et artistes neuchâtelois (Musée neuchâtelois, janvier 1877); Lettre d'apprentissage du graveur Jean-Pierre Droz (Musée neuchâtelois, 1916); and Jean-Pierre Droz et la collection de ses oeuvres au Musée d'histoire de Neuchâtel (Musée neuchâtelois, 1940). NOTICE SUR LES DIVERSES INVENTIONS DE FEU JEAN-PIERRE DROZ, GRAVEUR-MÉCANICIEN; RELATIVES A L'ART DU MONNOYAGE, AINSI QU'A PLUSIEURS AUTRES BRANCHES D'ÉCONOMIE INDUSTRIELLE. Small 4to. 35 leaves. Margolis eventually obtained an original copy of this rare work at the 1994 Kolbe/Spink sale (see lot 140 in our Sale 159). JEAN-BAPTISTE NINI: SES TERRES CUITES. By Alfred Villers. Blois: Imprimerie Lecesne, 1862. 8vo. 63, (1) pages. Annotated in pencil; one sheet of notes in Margolis's hand laid in. Margolis eventually obtained an original copy of this rare work from Douglas Saville in 1989 (see lot 171 in our Sale 159). NATALIS RONDOT: SA VIE ET SES TRAVAUX. By Léon Galle. Lyon: from the Revue du Lyonnais, 1901. 8vo. 74 leaves. The original publication, printed the following year as a separate volume. NOTICE SUR N.M. GATTEAUX, GRAVEUR EN MÉDAILLES. By Edme-François-Antoine-Marie Miel. Paris: Imprimerie de Ducessois, 1832. 8vo. 15 leaves. Margolis never was able to locate an original copy of this publication. All volumes are in modern cloth, gilt. Generally fine. Richard Margolis made heavy and productive use of archives and libraries around the world, and never hesitated to make photocopies of rare publications or unique materials for his later use, often going to the expense, as here, of having them bound (see lot 539 of our main sale of the Margolis Library-our Sale 159-for his extensive archives on Matthew Bolton). The present group brings together a remarkable group of printed and archival materials on Augustin Dupré, Jean-Pierre Droz, and other medallists. Margolis was never able to obtain an original copy of the Blanc work on Dupré or the Miel volume on Gatteaux. The Villers work is the earliest work devoted to Nini and his terra cottas, and originals are also extremely rare.
