Four complete volumes, bound in one [also bound in are Volume IV, Nos. 9–12 and Volume IX, No. 1]. 4to, contemporary brown half morocco, gilt; spine with five raised bands, lettered and decorated in gilt. Front hinge cracked, with resulting looseness, but binding still intact. Very good, overall. With Volume V, publication of the American Journal of Numismatics was assumed by the Boston Numismatic Society. It includes articles by William Sumner Appleton and Edmund Slafter. Volume VI includes important material on the medal struck for Commodore Preble, which is depicted on the volume's medal-rule plate. Volume VII begins William Sumner Appleton's important serial work on Washington medals. Articles in Volume VIII include excerpts from Crosby's Early Coins of America (on Massachusetts silver), and pieces by DuBois on U.S. gold coins and Slafter on the copper coins of the Earl of Stirling. Ex Michael Moose, with his signature on the front pastedown (Moore's collection was sold by Edward Cogan in 1879 in his 66th sale).
