Lady Frances Chelmsford, Vicereine of India (1916-21) during the office of her husband Viscount Chelmsford, specimen or artist's proof Bronze Medal, 1919, by Allan G Wyon, head of the Vicereine left, FRANCES CHELMSFORD, rev. inscription in Urdu within decorative cartouche border, 45mm. (BHM -). Extremely fine and very rare.
The reverse is said to translate as : "Knowledge increases as you read and study, but you must put what you have learned to good use or you are stupid."
The medal is not listed by Brown. The similar example he lists differs in signature and portrait and presumably comes after this example. The present medal is a specimen from the Allan G Wyon collection and thence by descent through the family.
