ATTICA. Athens. 133/2 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 30.5 mm, 16.90 g, 11 h), New Style, under the magistrates Polycharmos, Nikogenes and Phanokleidas. Head of Athena Parthenos to right, wearing pendant earring and a triple-crested Attic helmet adorned with Pegasos and long tendril on the bowl, and four serpents on the visor. Rev. Α-ΘΕ /ΠΟΛΥ - XΑΡΜ / ΝΙΚΟΓ / ΦΑΝΟ / ΚΛΕ Owl standing facing on amphora; to left, winged kerykeion; on amphora, A (= 1st month); below amphora, ΣΦ (= contractor's initials); all within olive wreath. Thompson - cf. 368 (same obverse die, but this combination of third magistrate, month letter and contractor's initials is unlisted). Clear, sharply struck and most attractive. Very minor flatness and slightly doublestruck on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
