CILICIA. Tarsos. Pharnabazos, 380-374/3 BC. Stater (Silver, 21 mm, 10.61 g, 8 h). Female head facing, based on the Arethusa of Kimon, turned slightly to left, her hair bound in an ampyx, and wearing a single pendant earring, a pearl necklace and a necklace of pendants; to left, fish swimming upwards. Rev. ΚΙΛΙΚΙΟΝ - HLK (in Aramaic) Bearded male head (Ares?) to left, wearing crested Attic helmet with upraised earflap and with a palmette and spiral ornament on the bowl. Casebonne Series 2. Jameson 2603 (same obverse die). Moysey Issue 3 (Obverse die 2/-, reverse unrecorded). Very rare, with the obverse die so closely based on Kimon's Arethusa, especially with the fish. Of very fine and refined style, attractively toned. Minor marks, otherwise, about extremely fine.
