China - Szechuan - Republic - Horse Gaming Tokens - AE 5 Cash horse token; Brass & AE 10 Cash horse / orchid token; brass 10 Cash, horse / seal token & Cu-Ni 5 Cash horse / flower token, ND (c.1921-1930) - Lot 5 tokens, good VF to XF (ZENO 287560-4), These tokens are reported to come in a variety of metals: brass, copper and copper-nickel in diameters ranging from 21mm to 40mm corresponding the sizes of 5, 10, 20, 30 and 100 wen coins. They were struck in the Chengtu and Chungling Mints by the warlords and high government officials of Sichuan (Szechuan), c. 1921-1930 and primarily used as gambling tokens. Being superior in quality to the debased cash coins then in circulation, these tokens were readily accepted by the public as legal tender whenever the recipients were willing to part with them
