CEYLON: George III, 1760-1820, AE 1/192 rupee, 1802, KM-73, a lovely mint state example! PCGS graded MS63 BN, ex Joe Sedillot Collection. In 1802 Ceylon came under the immediate control of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, with the official accounts to be kept in rixdollars, fanams, and pice, instead of in the Madras Star pagoda. The rixdollar was rated at a 1/4 of a pagoda or 2 shillings. This is the first coinage to be struck in Europe specifically for Ceylon which was requested by Governor North in 1801. The coins were struck at the Soho Mint, Birmingham, by Matthew Boulton.
