LUCANIA. Velia. Circa 535-510 BC. Drachm (Silver, 15 mm, 3.89 g). Forepart of a lion to right, devouring prey. Rev. Rough incuse square. HN Italy 1259. SNG ANS 1205-1206 (same dies). Williams 8 (O5/R4). Beautifully toned and of powerful late Archaic style. The usual minor die rust on the obverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
