Nero, 54-68. Sestertius (Orichalcum, 36 mm, 29.90 g, 6 h), Rome, circa 63. NERO CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG GERM P M TR P IMP P P Laureate head of Nero to right. Rev. DECVRSIO Nero, bare-headed and in military dress, riding horse prancing to right with a lion skin saddle cloth, holding lance in his right hand; behind him, soldier riding to right, holding a vexillum over his right shoulder. BMC p. 226, note *. CBN -. Cohen -. Gnecchi III, 15 and pl. 141, 7. RIC -, cf. 104 (bust with aegis). WCN -. An extremely rare variety. A beautiful piece, struck on a very broad and medallic flan with attractive riverine surfaces. Minor traces of corrosion, otherwise, about extremely fine.
