THRACO-MACEDONIAN TRIBES, Mygdones or Krestones (?). Circa 480-470 BC. Stater (Silver, 22 mm, 9.00 g). He-goat kneeling to right, head turned back to left; above, monogram of ΔE. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. BMC Macedon 1 (same obverse die). Lorber, Goats, Issue 8. Jameson 1836 = Raymond pl. I, 5 (same obverse die). Weber 1840 (same obverse die). A beautifully toned, perfectly centered and very well preserved example. About extremely fine.

Long assigned to the royal city of Aigai in Macedon, these wonderful staters are now believed to have been issued by one of the Thraco-Macedonian tribes in control of the important silver mines in the region, perhaps the Mygdones or Krestones.
