Thomas Ollive Mabbott (1898-1968) was a professor at Hunter College for 37 years, best known for his research on writer Edgar Allan Poe. His collection of well over 5000 Greek and Roman coins was sold after his death in five parts in New York in 1969-1970. It was an extremely important sale for Roman Provincial coinage given the many previously unrecorded examples it included.
