Asia Minor, uncertain mint AR Obol. Circa 4th - 3rd century BC. Male head to right / Blundered legend, sword or dagger and Galatian shield. Unpublished in the standard references; for a similar issue cf. Numismatik Naumann 77, 111 (IΔΟC). 0.76g, 12mm, 3h.
Near Very Fine. Extremely Rare and of great numismatic interest.
From a private European collection.
The resemblance of this enigmatic coin with one previously sold by Naumann Naumann bearing the blundered legend 'ΙΔΟΣ' (= ΔΙΟΣ?) and the depiction of a Galatian shield as well, suggests that it is either a contemporary imitation of an obol of Bosporan King Leukon II (cf. Roma Numismatics E-Sale 61, 213) or an uncertain Galatian tribe's issue in Asia Minor.
