Hupeh. Hsüan-t'ung Dollar ND (1909-1911) MS65 NGC, Wuchang mint, KM-Y131, L&M-187, Kann-45d, Chang-CH137, WS-0833. Incuse dot on fireball, no dot in center of Manchu variety. A breathtaking example of the highly popular provincial dragon Dollar series, with the majority of examples in the present sale ranking in lower tiers of certification. Certainly a wholly impressive survivor from this prolific type, demonstrating cascading silvery luster that sweeps the fields upon rotation, highlighting a mottled tangerine tone across crisp and laudably bold devices, a clear indication of the advanced preservation witnessed here. Currently tied for the finest among examples submitted to NGC, with PCGS showing two higher, including an unimaginable MS67 representative we had the pleasure of selling in 2014, and remains an offering that doubtlessly will be met with strong bidder enthusiasm.
