Kiangnan. Kuang-hsü Dollar ND (1897) XF Details (Chop Mark) PCGS, Nanking mint, KM-Y145.1, L&M-210A, Kann-66a, WS-0787, cf. Wenchao-640 (for type, this variety not listed; rarity 2 stars). Herringbone (Ornamental) edge. Variety with 1 stroke in sheng ("province"). A beloved type bearing the so-called "old Kiangnan" style dragon, and one which, owing to its first-year issuance by the mint and typically poor preservation, is highly treasured by series collectors whenever it becomes available. The obverse (reverse as holdered) displays two trivial chopmarks that do little to detract from the piece on the whole, enduring as a moderately handled survivor with a pleasing pewter patination.
