Yunnan. Republic T'ang Chi-yao gold 5 Dollars ND (1919) MS62 PCGS, Kunming mint, KM-Y481, L&M-1058, Kann-1527, Shih-A7-3, WS-0653 (1920). Variety with "2" beneath tassels on flags. A coin that hardly shows any of the usual trademark issues that plague the series, with its grade likely capped by just a few stray marks over the surfaces. Despite the mild degree of softness to the portrait and in the reverse flags, the result of what Kann calls a "touched-up" pair of dies, the strike has left a wholly appreciable level of detail, a fact strengthened by the coin's superior conditional preservation. Much like the 10 Dollars in this sale, very few survivors of this denomination have been certified in choice grades and finer, with a lone MS66 topping the census. On an interesting note, Wang Chun Li records that this issue was struck in 1920 by Yunnan Province's Fudian Bank.
