People's Republic brass Proof Panda Yuan 1985 PR60 PCGS, Shanghai mint, cf. KM85 (this date unlisted), Cheng-pg. 28, 7, CC-81, PAN-28A. Mintage: 50. Panda in Octagon. A seemingly innocuous, and yet incredibly challenging emission within the beloved Chinese Panda series, with our auction records revealing that we have handled only one specimen previously. Still one of only three types which the China Pricepedia has chosen to designate as rare, despite having an initial planned mintage of 1,000 pieces, Wang, Chan, and Lin record that only 50 were actually struck in their Gold & Silver Coins of China Standard Catalogue. Lightly hairlined in-line with its seemingly modest Proof grade, this coin nevertheless contains plentiful Proof eye appeal, and a general absence of overtly noticeably haze.
