AU58 | Australia, Victoria (1837-1901), gold Sovereign, 1888, Melbourne Mint, Jubilee Head left, raised J.E.B. initials close on truncation for engraver J. Edgar Boehm, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding VICTORIA D:G: BRITT: REG: F:D:, rev. St. George and dragon right, broken lance to left on ground line, date in exergue, initials B.P to upper right for engraver Benedetto Pistrucci (DISH M9; Marsh 132; S.3867A). Appealing example with strong residual mint lustre, particularly on the obverse. Slight toning on the obverse field and upper edge of reverse, graded by NGC as AU58.

NGC Certification 2819004-039.

Calendar Year Mintage 2,830,000.

The obverse Latin legend translates as "Victoria by the Grace of God, Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith".
