Charles II (1660-1685), Shilling, 1671, second laureate and draped bust right, rev. no stop after HIB, four crowned shields cruciform, eight strings to harp, obliquely milled edge, 5.94g, 6h (Bull 518 [R3]; ESC 1034; Spink 3375), on a broad flan, a few flecks and a softer strike on the bust, a light even tone on attractive lustrous surfaces, very rare.

, , The only comparable example of this rare coin to be offered at auction in the last 20 years was the Harry Manville coin (Spink 9, 4 June 1980, lot 56), re-offered in Spink 196, 24-25 September 2008, lot 929. The two coins are almost identical in terms of quality, and they are from the same dies.
