William and Mary (1688-1694), Shilling, 1692, normal 1, AT over TI in GRATIA, laureate and draped busts right, rev. no stop after BR, four crowned shields cruciform, seven strings to harp, obliquely milled edge, 5.90g, 6h (Bull 865; ESC 1075 lack of stop not noted; Spink 3437), usual soft strike on the busts, and lightly cleaned, otherwise a bolder fine, the error not noted by Bull.
The mistake in GRATIA is not noted in ESC, nor in Bull, and yet it frequently turns up. Bull does mention a flawed F in FR, and he gives RE over ET in REX, which is not clear here, but perhaps the bizarre shape of the X is related to the die sinker's problems.
Estimate: £120 - £180
