Sicily. Akragas. AR Half Shekel-Drachm, Punic occupation, c. 213-211 BC. Obv. Laureate head of Zeus right. Rev. ΑΚΡΑΓΑΝ - ΤΙ[ΝΩΝ] Eagle standing left, with spread wings; T in left field. HGC 2 12; Burnett, Enna Hoard 1. AR. 3.15 g. 18.50 mm. RR. Very rare. Ragged flan, prettily toned. Insignificant graffiti on obverse right field, otherwise. about EF. Akragas suffered badly during the Second Punic War, as both Rome and Carthage fought to control it. This coin dates from the time of the Punic occupation, which ended with the Roman capture of the city in 210 BC, at which time it was renamed Agrigentum. (Roma Numismatics 80, 2021, 58 note).
