Augsburg. Free City Taler 1745-IT MS63 NGC, Augsburg mint, KM157, Dav-1925, Schön-49, Forster-555. With the name and titles of Franz I. A charming single-year type which eschews much of the trademark imagery for the city's coinage, trading an image of the civic deity flanked by the city's Latin name--Augusta Vindelic(orum)--for the usual city view. It is notable that this type shows clear parallels with the Roman Emperor Constantine's silver medallions commemorating the transfer of the capital of the Empire to Constantinople in AD 330. Highly rare in this condition, we have offered a single MS64 finer, in 2011, indicating how seldom quality pieces become available on auction.
