ECUADOR. 8 Escudos, 1849/7-QUITO GJ. Quito Mint. PCGS AU-55.
Fr-8; KM-34.1. EXTREMELY RARE and highly coveted, this example in earlier editions of Krause was listed as "reported, not confirmed" highlighting the elusive nature of the piece. All known examples of this date appear to be the overdate variety, and it appears likely the same altered dies were used for all specimens. The details on this piece are well struck, with just a touch of wear on the highest of elements. Mostly devoid of mint brilliance, this example also does show some scratches, that are noted here for completeness. Nevertheless, this piece of phenomenal import retains a charm and is certain to be highly desirable as a prize for the most advanced Ecuadorian collector.
