GREAT BRITAIN. 5 Guineas Year DVODECIMO, 1713. London Mint. Anne. PCGS AU-58.
S-3568; Fr-317; KM-535. Words can scarcely describe the regal majesty of this beautiful and splendid Anne 5 Guineas. Her issues tend to be quite popular, accounting to the relatively brevity but marked impact of her reign, with the 5 Guineas standing alone atop the summit of desirability. Though quite SCARCE in any condition, the majority of surviving Anne 5 Guineas seem to have been preserved in the lower ranges of Almost Uncirculated or Extremely Fine condition. This example scrapes up against Mint State, and in the estimation of this cataloger, has all the look and charm of an Uncirculated specimen. Evidence of circulation is hard to spot, and the luster is full and vibrant. The overall sunny hue is brightened by a touch of deep orange color near the lower obverse periphery, adding to the charm of the piece. The strike is strong, and nearly full, with just a hint of weakness on the highest elements. For this date of 1713, only three examples have graded higher between both PCGS and NGC, all of which are MS-61. Given that this piece has all the eye appeal of a Mint State example, we fully expect strong competition. An exceptional opportunity to acquire a premium Anne 5 Guineas, and such an opportunity that will present itself very seldom to the legions of British enthusiasts.
