Carman, A.B. [editor and proprietor]. AMERICAN NUMISMATIC HERALD. Volume I, No. 1 (East Richland, Ohio, 1879). Small tabloid [30 by 23 cm]. 4 pages. Folded and slightly browned, but still near fine. Bourne 1870-68. The only issue published. The American Numismatic Herald featured no fewer than three articles on American copper coins specifically written for the Herald: Wm. P. Brown's "Early Copper Coins of the United States"; G.T.M. Combe's "Half Cents"; and Wm. K. Miller's "United States Cents." The proprietor also offered a run of cents for sale, including a 1799 @ $6.00. According to the second page, only 25 copies were printed. Included are advertisements from dealers of the day, including Wm. P. Brown, Chas. "Sleigernalt," Mason & Co., et al. Perhaps dyslexia combined with maladroit use of illustrations (the first article cited is headed by an illustration of a Pine Tree Shilling!) led to the publication's early demise. Ex M. Bourne Library.
(Estimate: $100)
