According to Greek mythological traditions, the settlement of Skylletion was founded by heroes from the Trojan War, either led by Menestheus (an Athenian ruler) or Odysseus himself, in commemoration of his escape from the monster, Scylla, in the Strait of Messina. Only a single bronze emission is attributed to the city, of which the present coin is an example.
