Ex Numismatica Ars Classica, Auction 49, Zürich, 21 October 2008, lot 328
This remarkable, and apparently unique, type depicts the temple of Vesta in Rome, which still survives today following its restoration during the Severan period by Julia Domna. The reverse scene is perhaps a depiction of offerings made by Caracalla prior to his campaigns in the East; indeed, he is shown wearing military attire while conducting the sacrifice.
Part of the Aurora Collection.
