The Remarkable "Ellerby Area" Hoard of English Gold Coins (1610-1727) | James I (1603-1625), Third Coinage, Crown Gold Issues [.917 Fine], Laurel, 18 June 1624 - 7 July 1625, Tower, (m.m.) IACOBVS D : G : MAG : BR[I] : FRA : ET HIB : REX • fourth laureate, draped and cuirassed bust left, small downward ties, smaller XX behind, rev. FACIA | M EOS IN | GENTEM | VNAM (m.m.), no stops, long cross fleury over small crowned square-topped Royal shield with pointed base, bird-headed harp with six strings, 9.15g, 6h, m.m. trefoil [46] (PAS: YORYM-18E848 = BM 2019 T668/27 this coin; Lingford II, 1096a; Schneider II, -; North 2114; Spink 2638B), struck on a defective elliptical planchet with an unfortunate split at 6 o'clock, a hint of surface friction from extraction, otherwise a remarkably 'mint fresh' example with wondrously bold devices juxtaposed with partial peripheral softness, about extremely fine and truly much as struck, rare in this state, with NGC 'Ellerby' Certification (#6380983-027).

Estimate: £1000 - £1500
