(t) CHINA--EMPIRE. Ta-Ching Government Bank. 100 Dollars, 1909. P-A78Bs. Specimen. PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
(S/M#T10-34). Printed by ABNC. This examples one of just four specimens encapsulated by PMG for this highly sought after type. None have been graded finer than the CU 64 level. This CU 63 example is sure to turn a few heads since it crosses the auction block, as Track & Price reports it has been nearly three years since this type was last available publicly from a major Auction House. This will be the first time we have offered this treasure to our bidders. PMG Pop 1/2 Finer.Li Hongzhang is depicted at left as a portrait vignette. Hongzhang was a politician, diplomat and military general during the Qing dynasty. Hongzhang is remembered today for his diplomatic skills, along with military and industrial modernizations; although his military career remains polarizing among scholars and historians. Next to Li's portrait is a vignette of the Temple of Heaven, with a colorful green & orange guilloche at center. Looking at the back of the note, a gazebo vignette is at center, with the border design/undertint in a burnt orange color. Solid zero serial numbers are found on both sides of the note. Incredibly scarce, and sure to fill a void missing in even the most advanced collection of Chinese paper.
From the Paradise Collection.
Estimate: $20000 - $30000
