German East Africa
Selections from the Eric P. Newman Collection of World Coins. German Colonial gold 15 Rupien 1916-T, KM16.1, Fr-1, Arabesque under T type, UNC Details (Obverse Scratched) NGC. An attractive specimen with typical pebbled texture in the fields and rich orange-gold coloration on both sides. A slide abrasion that runs over the back portion of the elephant accounts for the "details" grade, but the imperfection carries with it minimal visual impact. A highly sought-after type, with the beautiful portrayal of an elephant and mountains driving collector demand. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $1500 in VF, $3000 in EF, $3600 in UNC, $4000 in BU.
Estimate: 2500-3000 USD
