Engraved on the edge : PRIZE MEDAL OF THE EXHIBITION - BERRUS BROTHERS CLASS XXX. "This establishment is one of the largest manufactories in France, and the designs for shawls which it exhibits have most remarkable merit both in regard to the pattern and the colours. The introduction of small landscapes, however, in some of these designs, is an infrigment on the principle that the pattern must not disturb the idea of flatness in the surface." Reports by the juries on the subjects in the thirty classes into which the exhibition was divided, p. 702.
