SWITZERLAND. Zürich / Zürich. 10 Ducats ND (ca. 1678) by H. J. Bulliger. Obv. DOMINE CONSERVA NOS IN PACE. City view of Zurich\'s fortification. Rev. TREU UND LIEBE STETS BEI UNS. Under the radiant name of God in hebrew, two intertwined hands with a burning heart. On the left an obelisk with a rooster, on the right a grape vine with a dove. Haller 352 (15 Ducats); SM 384/386. AU. 33.45 g. NGC UNC details, edge filing
Extremely rare, probably the second one and the finest known. This intriguing issue was struck not much later than 1678 according to Haller. The dating can be related to the ending of the fortifications of the City. This issue is known for a module of 15 Ducats. Our example with a weight of 10 Ducats seems to be the second known. It is one of the greatest testimonies of the diversity and quality of the cantonal coinage of its time. It also shows the great wealth of the city of Zurich during the 17th century.
