Proof Set 1831 (14 coins) comprising Gold Two Pounds, Sovereign and Half Sovereign, Crown, Halfcrown, Shilling, Sixpence, Maundy Set, Penny, Halfpenny and Farthing, all with plain edges, S.PS2, the gold with some small scratches and hairlines, retaining almost full original brilliance, Crown EF with some contact marks, Halfcrown with a small rim nick, Shilling with some hairlines, Sixpence nicely toned with some nicks and scuffs to the rim, Maundy Set nFDC with attractive matching tone, the Maundy Penny with a small striking flaw on the bust, Penny and Halfpenny, Farthing with some edge nicks and two spots on the obverse, the Crown and Halfcrown perhaps once cleaned and re-toned comes in a octagonal case, similar in style to the 1902 long set case. Estimates for the mintage are in the region of 225 sets, complete sets are very seldom encountered and are highly prized, widely considered to be one of the finest and most beautiful set of designs produced in the entire English milled coinage.
