An Attractively Bound Set, with Private Tokens Volumes
Dalton, R., and S.H. Hamer. THE PROVINCIAL TOKEN-COINAGE OF THE 18TH CENTURY. ILLUSTRATED. No place of publication: Entered at Stationers' Hall, 1910-1918. Fourteen parts complete, as bound in two volumes. Crown 4to, later matching brown half morocco with brown cloth sides; spines ruled in blind and lettered in gilt. 567, (1) pages + titles and preliminary text to the various parts; finely illustrated throughout. Handwritten letter signed by Henry Hamer tipped in opposite the opening leaf to the section on Kent, presenting that portion to the Kent Numismatic Society. Small scuff to second volume's spine, else a fine set. [with] Hamer, S.H. NOTES ON THE PRIVATE TOKENS, THEIR ISSUERS AND DIE-SINKERS. London: Offprints from the British Numismatic Journal, 1904-1906, with cumulative title page. Crown 4to, later matching brown half morocco with brown cloth sides; spines ruled in blind and lettered in gilt; original printed card covers to each part bound in. Three parts in one volume, complete.(4), 34 + 28 + 9, (1) pages; 9 fine plates total. Inscribed by the author to Thomas Bliss. Spine slightly rubbed, else fine. A handsomely bound set of the original edition of the main work, with a letter from one of the authors, accompanied by Hamer's work on private tokens in a matching binding. Still the indispensable standard reference on this captivating series. The illustrations are photographically-printed and are superior to any of the reprints. Clain-Stefanelli 13878*. Grierson 252.
