Donnet, Fernand. COUP D'ÎIL SUR L'HISTOIRE FINANCIéRE D'ANVERS AU COURS DES SIéCLES. Anvers: J.E. Buschmann, 1927. Folio, original card covers; paper jacket with gilt seal. (38), 299, (1) untrimmed pages; finely printed throughout in red and black; 5 tipped-in portraits of bank presidents; title page derived from an allegorical engraving by Rubens; reproductions of other Rubens engravings; reproductions of woodcuts. Handsomely illustrated throughout, including numerous very fine tipped-in reproductions from Ordonnances along with many other coin illustrations, fine reproductions of documents, coats of arms, a counterfeiting scene, portraits, city plans, etc., etc. Light wear to jacket; near fine. Number 22 of 50 copies printed on papier ˆ la cuve, this one presented to the Comte Carton de Wiart, Ministre d'ƒtat. A superb production, composed by special authorization of the "Bourgmestre et ƒchevins de la Ville d'Anvers, avec les caractres Plantiniens conservŽs au MusŽe Plantin-Moretus." The regular edition consisted of 1000 copies printed on parcheminŽ franais de Ville-sur-Saulx. It was issued on the 100th anniversary of the Banque d'Anvers. All were issued "hors commerce" and very few copies appear to have found their way into numismatic circles. The many illustrations derived from Ordonnances dating from 1499 and printed on antique paper are especially interesting and important for numismatists.

Estimate: 150 USD
