Dillingham's Coin Circular
Dillingham, George A. THE COIN CIRCULAR. Volumes I-II (Titusville, Pennsylvania, March 1875-February 1877), in 24 issues. 8vo, self-covered. The June 1875 issue includes a single-leaf supplement. Volumes secured by old clips, presumably removable. Very good or better. Bourne 1870-21. A very scarce 19th-century American numismatic periodical. Dillingham published articles on a number of different numismatic subjects in the Circular, and also reported on auction sales, offered coins for sale and gave advice to collectors. He had high hopes for the hobby: "The resumption of specie payment will undoubtedly bring many new collectors in the field in this country, and we trust many of the old collectors who have long-ago abandoned the occupation of coin collecting will again come forward with renewed interest and help to make more popular this branch of science, which we believe will then take a new standing, and the names of its patrons will be swelled to twice their former numbers." Several of the leading lights of the hobby advertised in its pages. Nearly unknown today, and infrequently encountered. We once handled a copy of Volume III, No. 1, which would appear to have been the final issue (not here present). Crawford 499. Ex M. Bourne Library.

Estimate: 200 USD
