Steigerwalt's Confusing Initial Periodical
Steigerwalt, Chas. THE COIN JOURNAL. Volume I, No. 5 (Lancaster, June 1880) and Volume II, Nos. 1, 3 and 4 (December 1880, June 1881 and October 1881). Four issues, total. Tabloid [29 by 21.5 cm]. Folded, with some separation to some issues. Good or better. Bourne 1870-53. Steigerwalt's first periodical is particularly confusing (and most of them are bibliographically complicated). A Volume I, Nos. 1 and 2 were issued in 1878; the journal not taking off, he started it up again the next year under the same name and reverted back to Volume 1, No. 1. Very rare. Champa was missing four issues; Bass had none. Has not been reprinted. Davis 1004. Ex M. Bourne Library.
