HAN: Han Wudi, 141-87 BC, lead 300 zhu (10.98g), tortoise type, cast circa 119 BC with shao counterstamp on obverse, shao being an abbreviation for shao fu (emperor's private treasury), only an estimated 8-10 known specimens and this is an attractive example for type, VF, RRR, ex Dr. Dirk Löer Collection. Baijin Sanpin is a set of three types of coins: Dragon, Horse and Turtle issued in the Han dynasty. "Baijin" refers to the metal (lead), "Sanpin" refers to the fact that it was a series of three coins with different denominations: Dragon, Horse and Tortoise, the last being the most rare. Refer to article in Shanghai Symposium, The Bai Jin San Ping Coinage of Han Wudi: Early Influences From the Silk Road by James T. Anderson.

Estimate: 1,000-1,500 USD
