JAPAN: MEDALS: Taisho, 1912-1926, AE plaque, year 13 (1924), as Zeno-193037, 77x61mm plaque, commemorating the marriage of Crown Prince Hirohito and Princess Nagako (the later Emperor Showa and Empress Kojun) on 26 January 1924, portraits of the prince and princess, chrysanthemum seal above, inscription "To Commemorate the Wedding of His Highness (the Crown Prince of) the Togu Palace" below // two entwined trees (a traditional symbol of marriage) with date between, inscription "(high in the sky) hang the sun and moon" (about the wedding of Prince and Princess) to right, and "five stars (looking like) the necklace of pearls" to left, Japan Mint hallmark on bottom edge, EF, R. Japanese commemorative plaques are rarely encountered. We were able to find only four other examples of this plaque on CoinArchives that were sold since 2015. The obverse was engraved by Shoukichi Hata and the reverse was engraved by I. Sato.
