ILKHAN: Hulagu, 1256-1265, AR dirham (2.81g), Hamâh, AH658, A-2124, fully legible mint & date, extremely rare type for this mint, Mongol conquest coin, on which Hulagu is described as "the conqueror of the coast (al-basita) by the grace of his brother Möngke, the Great Qa'an", about 15% flat but lovely example nonetheless, VF. The coast refers to the Mediterranean, which of course the Mongol army never quite reached! Hulagu occupied Damascus and Hamâh for three months in AH658.
Estimate: 550-700 USD
