Magnentius. Æ Centenionalis (4.59 g), AD 350-353. Contemporary imitation. Copying Treveri. D N MAGNENTIVS P F AVG (P retrograde), bare-headed and cuirassed bust of Magnentius right. Reverse: CALVS (sic) DD NN AVG ET CAES, large Chi-rho between A and ω. Cf. RIC 318ff. An unusual imitation of a double centenionalis on a centenionalis-sized flan, and with the bust of Magnentius similar in style to the much later portraits of Alfred the Great. Superb Extremely Fine.
