Soldiers would purchase these postcards and send them home to deliver news, or to mark special occasions. They were rather expensive items. Many take the form of 'envelopes' such the ones seen in this lot, in which a letter could be placed, alongside the original pre-printed card. For this reason, many don't have writing on the backs as one would usually expect from postcards. Many designs were patriotic, featuring flags and lions.
Please note that these are fragile items and one should refrain from framing them and mounting them on the wall, as the light will fade the delicate silk and thread.

Estimate: 100 - 150 GBP
