It had been intended to hold the ceremony marking the Mint's first coinage with the stream press on George Washington's birthday, February 22nd, but the press soon broke down and the medals were struck on March 23rd when all had been restored. The original steam press can now be found in the ANA Money Museum in Colorado Springs.
