George III bronze "God Save the King" Medal 1800 MS63 Brown NGC, BHM-486. 38mm. By P. Kempson. Obv. Angel kneeling left, head right, holding shield and medallion with bust of George III. Rev. Radiant crown over thistle and rose within wreath tied with ribbon. Issued to celebrate the king's survival of an attempted assassination at the Drury Lane Theatre, where a madman took a shot at him. Eimer says "The King is reported to have shown unconcern and to have 'slept as quietly as usual during the interval'." This example features glossy surfaces and an engaging design. Pay particular attention to the strike of the miniature George III bust, which is indicative of the overall quality of presentation. From the Abbeygate Collection of British Medals
